Tell us a bit about what you do now and your journey to get there.
I started my blog after giving birth to my daughter in 2008. It was meant to be a private online journal where I’d write stuff about life as a mum, and hopefully inspire myself to lose my baby weight. After publishing a few blog posts, I quickly realised I’d found my passion and before long I’d started connecting with people all over the world, and I was hooked.
Eight years on and that small blogging hobby has become my full-time job, and has allowed me to travel to beautiful corners of the world, meet hundreds of readers and share so many different stories. It’s been brilliant.
How do you set goals? Do you follow a specific process?
I’ve always been a dreamer and a list-writer. I like to have direction. I start with a plain A4 piece of paper and start scribbling and dreaming. I think about the things I love most in life, and how I can mix those into the work I do, and live a life I love.
From those scribbles, I start putting them into a more structured plan through using a diary and also with list writing. Lastly, I have a life and business coach who helps me make those dreams a reality.
What do you do when you hit a roadblock or things aren’t going right?
I think it’s important to realise that life isn’t always smooth sailing, but that also makes life sweeter because I have to work harder for achieving those goals. When I hit a snag, I take time out by heading to the beach or getting creative and then come back with a clear mind to tackle it. It might mean changing direction, letting go of the idea altogether, or working out a different way to get to where I want to go.
What’s one habit you credit with getting you to where you are now?
I don’t know how to relax, which is a bad thing, but also a good thing because I keep at something until I achieve it.
What keeps you awake at night?
Small children! I’m a great sleeper generally, so I don’t stress about things at night… but I do have kids waking me up at all hours.
Who or what inspires you the most?
I love people who go for their dreams. I love the stories of everyday people who achieve amazing things. I find inspiration everywhere, including in my kids.
What is your favourite quote or saying?
I have so many, I LOVE quotes! I could read them all day long. I was recently doing a course with Brendon Burchard and he said, “Believe in your ability to figure things out” and I really loved that. I think we need to have more faith in ourselves.
What tool, tech or app are you loving right now?
I am such a paper girl. I think Apps are brilliant, but I always come back to writing and planning on paper. My kids and I are loving SnapChat for the fun filters!
Describe one big goal you have set for 2017.
2017 is going to be the year of me. Of taking care of me. Of putting myself first, and simplifying things a little bit more!
